this is everything one could want from the Prodigy in 2018. A contender for track of the year that compliments any EDM, techno, rock, hip hop, alternative, or industrial playlist. Fucked up-sounding distortion blasts and funky, throwback 90's-electronica-esque fills framing Ho99o9's aggressive-yet-playful verses form an instantly classic sound, recalling vintage Public Enemy, Rage Against The Machine, and Pop Will Eat Itself. It's got an almost metal-rap vibe with an awesome industrial-rock sound reminiscent of Pigface. Has a real late-90's feel to it.įight Fire With Fire might be my favourite track here. The song is laced with punky, shouting vocals that are catchy as hell and masterful noise-gated beats that hit hard.
Light Up The Sky is an instant classic, hearkening back to the early days with the silly pitch-shifted chipmunk rave vocals, except this time updated with ultra-heavy, driving bass that almost sound like metal guitars and some of the most satisfying, pumped-up hard techno blasts Howlett has crafted since the Voodoo People & Breathe. Need Some1 was a decent teaser, sort of like a dubstep-y take on old-school breakbeats with a satisfying chug-chug thump anchoring the main rhythm under the breaks, chopped up vox sample and synth leads. The album might be in line with their 2000's output, but the singles!!! Simply put, the singles for this album are the best ones they've knocked out since the 90's. It’s a solid little album which will certainly please its fanbase, and at this point that’s all you can ask for.ĮDITIONS: DIGITAL/̶/̶C̶A̶S̶S̶E̶T̶T̶E̶/̶/̶C̶D̶/̶/̶V̶I̶N̶Y̶L̶ Maxim and Keef Flint are very much present and correct, each supplying their legendary vocal skills on this seventh studio record.Yes, there are one or two. From thereon the record spreads its wings a couple of millimetres, using more contemporary electronic stylings and a less restrained approach to songwriting that’ll ensure you see it through to the end. The Prodigy, the original electronic music trailblazers, are back with some of their fiercest tunes ever.No Tourists has been written, produced and mixed over the last year by Liam Howlett in his studio in Londons Kings Cross. Their punk ethos remains intact as the album runs through its 10 tracks in a succinct and on the nose fashion with the likes of “Light Up The Sky” and “We Live Forever” attempting to touch on the group’s glory day highlights of “Smack My Bitch Up” or “Breath”, while the industrial tinged deviation of H09909’s guest spot track “Fight Fire With Fire” makes as a nice turning point for the LP in terms of sound palate. No Tourists is no exception, but where the last decade has seen the band running with the same archetype, here they’ve decided to implement a few reflective and familiar fan-pleasing elements to spruce over the faint odour of their turning corpse – particularly in the first half of the LP. The Essex titans have held it together pretty well over the years, making albums that don’t come anywhere close to Music For The Jilted Generation or The Fat Of The Land, but they do maintain a respectable amount of integrity using the same kindred template of abrasive, wobbly techno sounds and hard-rock inspired instrumentals lathered in distinct grooves and samples. Going into No Tourists, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have an idea of what to expect from it considering how content they’ve been on their last two albums. They have sold an estimated 30 million records worldwide, and won numerous music awards during their career, including two Brit Awards for Best British Dance Act, three MTV Video Music Awards, two Kerrang! Awards, five MTV Europe Music Awards, and two Grammy Award nominations.ĥ.ğight Fire with Fire (featuring Ho99o9)ē:29ġ0.Review Summary: The Prodigy continues to meet expectations. 7:46 The Prodigy - Timebomb Zone (Official Video) 3:25 The Prodigy - Light Up the Sky (Official Lyric Video) 3:21 The Prodigy - Need Some1 (Official Video) 3:21 The Prodigy - We Live Forever (Live at Alexandra Palace). 8:15 The Prodigy - No Tourists (vinyl B) Ortofon 2M Red.
